CELEBRATION OF ETERNAL PERSPECTIVES

Our very life on earth is just a little fragment of eternity. On individual levels, we get to live on earth for about 80-90years, but the eternal aspect of our existence is beyond our earthly walk. Eternity is Timeless. It’s often said to be like a drop of water in an ocean, but you know what? I dare say that it’s a far cry from that because the ocean has boundaries! But eternity has none. It’s rather like the inexhaustible air in the universe compared to the little air trapped in a small balloon.

As we grow through our journey on earth today, we are involved in multitudes of activities; building a career, marriage, making a living, raising kids, and the likes. These activities are noble and quite essential to our temporary stay on earth. But eternal perspective to life will mean that we are found excelling not just in those earthly activities but much more in those activities that will count in the afterlife.

Eternal Perspectives, therefore, deals with having eternity in mind as we exist in this temporary side of existence which is time-bound.  Knowing that our time on the earth is given us as a free gift of grace from God, the creator, We must do our best to maximize it and invest it wisely so that will please Him and receive our reward.

The eternal Perspective to life for the person, who hasn’t believed in the work of Jesus, is to accept God’s offer of eternal life which is in Christ Jesus. Anyone who believes that Jesus died and rose for them is saved.

1 John 5:11-12

11 And the testimony is this: God has given us eternal life [we already possess it], and this life is in His Son [resulting in our spiritual completeness, and eternal companionship with Him]. 12 He who has the Son [by accepting Him as Lord and Savior] has the life [that is eternal]; he who does not have the Son of God [by personal faith] does not have the life.

The eternal Perspective to life as believers is going through the earth with a consciousness that we’ll have to stand before God to give an account of our lives to God. Our lives should therefore be spent pursuing activities that will bring God glory and also count in eternity.

2Cor 5v9-10

Therefore, whether we are at home [on earth] or away from home [and with Him], it is our [constant] ambition to be pleasing to Him. 10 For we [believers will be called to account and] must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be repaid for what has been done in the body, whether good or bad [that is, each will be held responsible for his actions, purposes, goals, motives—the use or misuse of his time, opportunities and abilities].

According to the scriptures some activities that will count in the afterlife are;

  • Preaching the gospel to the unsaved
  • discipleship
  • Spiritual disciplines (Learn more about this by visiting our website)
  • Being taught and trained in the ways of God.
  • Generosity to the Saints and God’s work.
  • Good deeds are done for God’s sake
  • Persecution for the gospel

In real estate, investors are advised to buy properties with a high returns on investment. When investing, they are looking at 10-20 years’ time and considering the market value of such property then. They want to invest today in something that will yield results in years to come. In like manner, the believer today should live today with eternity in view.

To help us understand eternal perspectives is the acronym E.T.E.R.N.A.L which we will be discussing in the Series Celebration Of Eternal Perspectives

TYING ETERNAL PERSPECTIVES TO OTHER CELEBRATIONS

Eternal Perspectives and Spiritual Disciplines

The eternal Perspective to life as believers is going through the earth with a consciousness that we’ll have to stand before God to give an account of our lives to God. 1Cor 5:9-10. Our lives should therefore be given to pursuing activities that will bring God glory and also count in eternity. Some of such activities are the spiritual disciplines; the inward disciplines of meditation, prayer, fasting, and study, the outward disciplines of simplicity, solitude, submission, and service, and the corporate disciplines of confession, worship, guidance, and celebration.

Eternal Perspectives and Community

“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near”. Heb 10:24-25.

It is important to carefully choose our community and relationship as they influence our choices and how we live. To honor God in our dealings we need to identify with people of like minds. People who will spur you on to spiritual growth and provide the support you need when you’re weak.

Eternal Perspectives and Money

Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce”. Prov 3:9

The right perspective towards money is to make sure that it’s working for us, serving God and others, and not us serving money. We honor God when we; take control of our finances and budget such that we don’t spend more than we earn, exercise self-discipline and contentment, diligently build our income, help those in need, and generously give to the work of God.

Eternal Perspectives And Mental Health

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” Romans 12:1-2

The transforming power of the Holy Spirit helps us overcome Hurts, Hang-Ups, and Habits. Hurts, Hang-ups, and Habits are popularly known as the 3Hs are anything from the past or present that gets in the way of having a fruitful relationship with Christ and other people. Allowing God to transform your mind by regularly renewing it through the word and prayer is a path that leads to wholesomeness. This allows you to depend on God’s power for your well-being so that you can help restore others.
